White luminous colour against black/dark green
Block capital letters
Slight decaying/fading of letters
This font is powerful and noticeable. The glowing white of the colour shows the audience the supernatural theme of the film and the decaying effect make is look aged which is effective due to the olden day period of the film. This would be a good idea for our opening as we also have a Victorian theme.
The Ring
White luminous colour against black
Lower case small thin handwritten letters
Spaced out and child-like/ messily written
The luminosity of the font implies that there is a supernatural element to the film. The childlike messy handwritten effect give the impression that the antagonist of the film is a child as the font of the film generally gives an idea of who we are to fear.
Grave Encounters
White luminous colour against dark brown
Block capital letters and slightly fuzzy
Letters quite spaced out
This font is made to look like it has been lit up as if a shop sign by the luminous colour and the smeared effect as if very bright. It has also been made to look blurred. This effect makes it stand out and look supernatural but it looks a bit too modern for our desired outcome.
Paranormal Activity
Capital block letters
Luminous red colour against black background
Looks slightly faded and glowing
Similarly to Grave Encounters, this font is made to seem as if it has been lit up which makes it seem as if a supernatural element is at work. However this also is not what we really want for our opening. The red colour connotes danger and passion and this might be a good idea as the antagonist is the protagonist's sister however the colours white or black may be better as it has a more old-fashioned feel.
Insidious
Capital letters
Futuristic font with hard edges
White colour
The glowing effect of the font makes it seem very ghostlike. The decaying/dirty effect also makes it seem slightly aged. However, the font has a very futuristic feel and this is the opposite effect we would like to give.
Sherlock Holmes
Calligraphy writing
Faded black against white
Splatters as if ink has been smeared on the page
I chose this typography because although the film is not of the genre that we are doing I thought the calligraphy style would be very effective as it makes it look old-fashioned. Also, the fact that it no bold and lit up but looks as if it has been written it will give a chilling effect in juxtaposition to the theme of the film as it is not what the genre usually uses.
