'Hostel' - Colour Deconstruction

'Hostel' - Colour Deconstruction (trailer)

Point 1: Font colour
Font
Rusty colour (copper ish) gives an idea of rust and decay which links to death and perhaps a corrupted mind set, it is brighter in the middle of the phrase but much darker on the edges suggesting corrupting good into evil and that something is wrong. Goldish colours also connote extravagance which tells us that the method this person is using is over the top and they are going
to be using torture instead of just killing them which could suggest that the person enjoys killing people. Gold also suggests hierarchy within the hostel which could therefore be the murderer being on the top and the victims underneath and being under the power of the murderer.

Point 2: Use of red
Red
The use of red links to death and blood which is shown on the toe nail of the person in the second image. This tells us that it is likely this person is going to die soon which links to the genre of the film. This is also telling us that there will be a lot of blood in this film as there is red on the toenail which is a small part of the body therefore if a small part of the body is going to have a lot of blood it tells us that its going to be a particularly gory film which might appeal to those who like those kind of films.

Point 3: Use of greys
Grey
The fact that grey is an off silver tells us that it isn't what silver connotes which is technology and future, it is more to do with old fashioned-ness. Therefore the fact that the murder/torture weapons are grey tell us that they are not modern/painless they are specifically used to cause pain to people as they would not provide quick and painless deaths. Also the fact that the majority of the trailer (including the walls and the surroundings) is grey tells us that it is cut off from society as it seems to be set in modern times yet the rooms and weapons are very backwards.

Point 4: Use of blue
Blue
The blue on the apron suggests a disconnection between the murderer and the victims is the modern use of blue. This tells us that the people don't really have a reason to die and it's just killing for entertainment. The fact that there is blue on an apron which protects the clothes you are wearing underneath suggests that these are ordinary people that just want to kill people so they pay money and put on a character before they kill which suggests a disconnection between the murderer and his/her actual self.
